PHSE

Personal, Social and Health Education is an important and necessary part of our pupils' education and is taught throughout a child’s time at St. Cuthbert's. Through our teaching of PSHE, we provide learning opportunities and experiences that help our children grow and develop as individuals, members of families and of social and economic communities.

Through our PSHE curriculum, we aim to develop positive attitudes and values that influence healthy patterns of behaviour, to explore and understand feelings, attitudes and values and to equip pupils with the skills to make informed choices.

PSHE is taught through all curriculum areas as well as individual lessons: Rights and Responsibilities, Feelings and Friendship, Safety and Risk, Identity, Health, Money, and Relationships and Health Education (RHE).

At St. Cuthbert's, we understand that pupils must be provided with an education that prepares them for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of adult life. A key part of this relates to Relationships and Health Education, which is a statutory part of education for every primary-aged pupil. We believe that our school has a duty to inform and educate children on appropriate issues regarding health, sex and relationships.

Relationships Education focuses on giving pupils the knowledge they need to make informed decisions about their wellbeing, health and relationships, and to build their self-belief. Health Education focuses on equipping pupils with the knowledge they need to make good decisions about their own health and wellbeing.

Our RHE policy has been written in consultation with our parents and school governors.
